CONVERSE [PRODUCT] RED JACK PURCELL
2010 was definitely one of my most productive years since we started CLOT in Hong Kong and other cities in Asia. One of the things that I felt happy about this year was when Converse approached me to come up with a design for the [PROJECT] RED concept.
Not only does this product surprise the market with its features, it also plays a role in the fight against AIDS in Africa. I really like the style as it is something predictable and very unassuming, sort of like the underdog. Especially the front of the shoe, which is really what fascinates me. Converse has been associated with the worlds of music, sport, art and fashion. It also has a rich history of bringing them together in its on-going commitment to being a catalyst for creativity. This was what inspired me to work with Converse and the Jack Purcell was the shoe that I wanted to work with.
CLOT’s creation is an elegant version of the Jack Purcell shoe. An element of muted red was added to embody the CLOT movement and to subtly reference the mission of the [PRODUCT] RED project. This shoe was mostly inspired by our ‘from dusk till dawn’ collection and is definitely the sneaker of the year for myself.
