I thought it was only fair to involve my daughter Levi Nash in the 'Best of the Best 2010' as her sneaker game is as good as any. Levi's first ever pair of sneakers was a pair of baby Converse All Stars. She used to hang out with me at the sneaker store I used to manage. By the time she was 3 she knew what Adidas Trefoil, Nike Swoosh and Jordans were. I have collected every pair of sneakers since she was born in 2000 and her collection consists of vintage Agassis, Ewings, Jordan 7s & 11s, Nike Aqua sock, Ace 83s, Air Max 90s, Superstars, Stan Smiths and loads more.
At the beginning of this year Levi and I went shopping for a new pair of kicks. She wanted non-split toe Rifts in white leather and pink, but once she'd tried them on she wasn't too sure and didn't find them very comfortable. After looking around Foot Locker she opted for the Jordan 1, because it was the best looking sneaker in pink. As a parent I'm pretty stoked with the Jordan 1's durability, since kids tend to test sneaks a lot harder than adults.
On our recent trip to Porto, Portugal, we were passing by a Nike store in the local shopping mall and Levi saw the Nike Mercurial in Neon pink... she then gave me 'THE LOOK' as if she'd seen the cutest puppy in the world. To be honest, she didn't really have to give me the hard sell... I was pretty much in awe of them too and she rocked them well so I guess I couldn't say no.
I'm a sucker for BWs and they get me every time (or I get them every time?). My love for them was sparked in my teens - I had a few pairs then and even now the shape and fit is perfect for my foot. So when I saw these white and purple classics on sale in May, I had to snap them up. Lastly (and not to blow my own trumpet), this year's fave sneaker has to be my most recent collaboration with Lacoste, the Bravington - Herringbone Tweed. I designed it to embody everything I love about footwear: a gum sole, cross moccasin stitch, deck shoe interlacing, Herringbone tweed, lace savers, lace loops, perforations and most importantly comfort. I actually think I could wear this shoe for the rest of my life and be happy.
