2008 - BEST OF THE BEST SNEAKERS

I must confess that after admiring these online, I’d casually asked my girl Sopho to drop by a store in Vancouver that I knew had them. I made out that it was cool and she didn’t have to go out of her way, no biggie. But really I think I was trying to hide the fact that I was becoming obsessed, that my heart was beating faster each time I set eyes on them. The fact that as soon as I saw them here in Melbourne I bought them in a second during rent week, means this is one special shoe.

What attracted me to these little gems? At a time when companies are recognising the growing number of Sneaker Freakettes; amid hundreds of pink and patent kicks, these whisper ‘lady’ rather than scream ‘girly’.
It’s the white and light greys that really do it for me. Complimentary colour combinations grab my attention, not so much something that is limited, exclusive, or who made it. I have to admit though, that if this colourway was slapped on to another shoe I would have fallen for it also. But in saying that, the Blazer really is the perfect candidate - have you ever seen gold laces quite like this before? Damn! Not many other shoes give you the opportunity to show off your laces like the Blazer does. The real winner though? The embossed metallic croc print, mmmmm dreamy! The fact that the upper is entirely leather is also a big plus.
Us girls are hard to please. Not all of us want pretty shoes and that doesn’t necessarily mean that we want to share identical colourways with the guys. I think this is a fantastic representation of a female shoe that is subtle yet supremely dope, a humble statement in ladies footwear.
