2008 - BEST OF THE BEST SNEAKERS

Call me a cheater for selecting a sneaker inspired boot as my favorite release of 2008, but what makes the Lacoste Granite Boot my favorite piece of the year is the way it seamlessly combines a variety of distinctive references. Sneaker x Boot. Streetwear x High Fashion. Leather x Canvas. Lo-top (pant over) x Hi-top (pant tucked). Right Shoe x Left Shoe…

The pair even comes with two sets of laces! Grey and black, or straight black if you want to tone it down – which conveniently leads to the second reason the Granite Boot is my selection this year: it's super subtle. Tonal branding on the cream midsole means the only colors on the boot are a green gator on the heel tab and a logo on top of the tongue – perfect highlights to the black and grey canvas.
A discriminating palette and a contrasting patchwork of leather/canvas provide a refined edge to match with an assortment of loud and understated jackets (my most coveted garments in frosty Canadian winters).
Lacoste has made some powerful moves in the street arena lately with the Stealth collection and their collaboration with Stash. The Granite Boot from the Club Collection, however, is a true testament to the brand's integrity – a staple piece created for the runway and embraced by the streets.
