Hmm, where should I begin? On a serious note, there were so many dynamic releases this year, it’s quite hard to drop a dime on a specific absolute favourite out of them all.
You can most definitely say that 2008 was the year sneaker brands stepped up to the plate based on innovation, textiles and design. And while many of us (including myself) hunger for all things new, you really have to admit that this year was dedicated to everything ‘outside of the box’ - hence Puma’s Endangered Species Pack, the Married To The Mob x Colette x Reebok Freestyle, Nike’s ‘metallic croc’ Blazer, the list goes on! I’ve found myself gravitating towards sneakers with incomprehensible colour combinations. And as cliché as it may sound, your kicks should always display your inner-most personality, well at least the ladies seem to think so! I can’t front though, 2008 was all about custom-made kicks. A few pairs of Air Max 90s and the usual Dunks. Nothing out of the norm but those who know me from my blog are aware of the fact that I am a ‘New York City Around The Way Girl’ by style and a colour fiend by nature.
Although my aesthetic remains pretty much the same every month, I’ll scroll back to January of this year when Nike dropped their women’s ‘Cocktail’ Air Max 90. I copped them the first moment they arrived on the shelves. Month after month, release after release and stacks of sneaker boxes later, my ‘Cocktails’ have kept a serious smile on my face, second in line to a few other purchases I have made. Hey, what can I say? Women can’t always pick and choose - especially when sneakers are involved!
