USUGROW BEHIND THE SCENES LIVE PAINT VIDEO

We caught up this week with Japanese artist Usugrow and his collaborator Toshikazu Nozaka as they added the finishing touches to 'Oriental Elements', their new exhibition which opens this Friday at Backwoods Gallery Melbourne. Emerging from the shadows of Japan's fabled punk underground, Usugrow has won global acclaim for his stark yet elegant noir visions and the technical brilliance of his merticulous ink drawings. Through allusions to traditional Japanese calligraphy and tattoo culture, Usugrow and his Shinganist art collective dwell on the primal and spiritual side of human nature. Usugrow and Toshi take five to talk about their art in the video below, and we score a peep at a selection of the new works that will be on display. Opening 6-9PM on Friday July 15th, visit Backwoods Gallery for more details and to request a catalogue.
