NIKE CONSIDERED SNEAKERS

You gotta hand it to the guys at Beaverton. So many new projects, so many new ideas, it’s almost a full-time occupation keeping track of all of them. This latest effort is called Considered, and it has been cleverly designed to create minimal impact. The shoes are constructed from as few individual components as possible, have almost no lining, use recycled rubber, hemp laces and Vege-tan leather and can be easily disassembled. All things Considered, we think they’ve done an outstanding job!

TROOP IS BACK IN TOWN!

Troop was the ultimate '80s/'90s hip hop brand – crazy hightops, gold badges, huge branding – their sneakers certainly had a presence that defied good taste. In our eyes, the brand is immortal, but build quality was poor, meaning vintage Troops are pretty sparse these days. In May this year, we were contacted by Randy Scurlock who informed us that the old dinosaur was back in town! Holy calamity... Troop lives! Hurrah! Our initial excitement was tempered when we saw the roll-out models – they’re well made and look good, but the selection could have been a lot bolder and closer to the brand’s vibrant heritage. Where are the true Troops? We threw down some Q’s and let Randy do the talking...

ASICS X LA MJC X COLETTE (MICHAEL DUPOUY)

French purveyors of street culture have always held their heads high with the knowledge that whatever they rock is done so with impeccable style and vision. Parisian tastemakers La MJC along with Colette and their sister online store Sold Out have created this double header of ASICS, with only 100 pairs of both styles available worldwide in December! But don’t get it twisted, as Michael Dupouy at La MJC explains, this collection is not about hype or keeping to where the market is right now, it’s simply a natural extension of his childhood nostalgia. DAMANI INTERVIEW (ADIDAS)

L.A. is about to be put back on the hip hop map with the launch of MC Damani’s adidas EQT B-Ball Low. Not since the Doggy Biscuit crumbs left by Snoop Dogg, has a West Coast rapper received so much attention without ever releasing an official album. With the dawn of a new political climate influencing Damani’s collaboration, we caught up with the ‘unsigned hype’ to get the low low on Inglewood and working with the three stripe masters. Congratulations Playa!

BRISBANE SWAP & COP II

Nothing beats getting up at 5 am in the morning to hop on a plane to swap sneakers with only one hour of sleep. Well maybe the hope that Brisneyland will deliver some holy grails in a size 7, but those chances seemed slim. Hans and I rocked out to the airport delirious from the lack of slumber to endure a two-hour Virgin Flight and to help launch Issue 12 of the Best Boogazine in the world, Sneaker Freaker. The other reason we were there was to peep the heat at Brisbane's second annual Swap and Cop Swap Meet.

SLAM CITY SKATES DUNK LAUNCH

The details change but you know the scenario. We awoke at 6am to find a crisp, beautiful morning waiting behind the curtains: a perfect day to go shooting. No need for alarm; there’s no killing involved. By 8am we were in the heart of London’s west end heading for the target. We found the place strangely tranquil, and criss-crossed deserted streets quickly, blown along by a pleasant breeze. We spied our quarry as we turned the final corner and saw the queue. We’d come for photos; the crew were here for shoes. You’ve got to respect the hardcore.

KEEP A BREAST X PONY - CHECK YOUR SELF!

Ladies it's time to ‘check yourself' with Pony's new collaboration with cancer awareness campaign ‘Keep A Breast'. Utilising sneakers in order to spread their message to a new demographic, the women at KAB have roped in the artistic genius of Spanish illustrator Pepa Prieto. We caught up with the team to find out how one simple check could not only save a boob, it could save your life. On the flipside, we also hooked up with Prieto to find out how she went from decking out an MTV Airbus to Pepa-fying Pony.

MIKIE INTERVIEW (SEATTLE SNEAKER CUSTOMISER)

The age old saying, ‘it’s not what you know but who you know’ has certainly helped customiser Mikie from grunge city Seattle. Growing up with Supersonic’s b-baller Luke Ridnour and getting his designs worn by the entire NBA team would seem like the coup of coups. But leave it to hard working Mikie to create a name for himself on his own, rather than riding on any coat-tails along the way. Just don’t tell him that art on sneakers is a dying trend – Mikie is here to stay and pave the way for an airbrushed future!
