AIR MAX LIGHT

Hardcore airmax heads and seasoned vintage collectors may claim they know this shoe, but for the rest of us mere mortals, the airmax light is something of a mystery.

Refurbished and returned to the shelves earlier this year after a very long absence, the Light is obscure enough that we’d never even seen a pair with our own eyes. After scurrying for our early ‘90s brand catalogues to check names, rank and serial numbers, here’s what we can tell you. As the title suggests, the model was supposed to be an improvement to the debut AirMax, with the principal idea being to create a lighter shoe by using phylon instead of polyurethane.

The Light also featured a few cosmetic changes, most notably a new sole unit and the introduction of the curvy ‘thermoplastic’ panel that became the trademark of the much loved AirMax 90. For total AirMax completists, it throws up a whole new challenge – now there’s a whole new chapter to fiend after! So there you have it... the AirMax Light is definitely one of those ‘in between models’, a bit like Donald Trump if you know what I mean.
