Trash(ed) - Acupuncture & P.L.U.R
collection by TM3K 19th Dec 2007So I shuffled BITD :) Loved it! I took pride in embracing P.L.U.R. and still do (but on different social levels) :)
Going to *raves (*now a defunct dirty word in society, its ALL about festivals now innit?!) Been there, done that, bought the t-shirt, worn the t-shirt, made a dj line up scehdule and map, got lost, jumped on a bouncy castle, wandered thru a maze & bouncing on these plastic floor tile things to Sven Vath playing @ Kyral...supposedly LAST ONE EVER! Forever & EVER?!? Its the last one, WE HAVE TO GO :P small intimate warehouse rave under the westgate bridge...
I wasnt really a kandy kid or cbd or bass, just went to what I wanted to...but smilepolice & NRG events were wikid. TT & Welcome BITD were aight... Ah the good old days!
Anyways enough about that...back to sneakers. I didn't want to fuck up my swoosh or 3stripes sneaks while attending these dirty filthy events which are lots and lots of fun...
Plus who the fuck wants traction and good grip while dancing? Not any Melbourne shufflers at least. So an alternative had to be found.
Acupuncture aka ACU was the answer.
My first search for Acupuncture shoes was for the montinyak sole which had spikes around the front and back of the sole. Totally wikid looking! But all sold out and was part of last seasons stock, so never got them. They never retroed them to my knowledge.
These shoes specifically say they are not for athletic use and for fashion only. They looked good, nice designs, good matierals...so yeah I indulged!
BITD they had quite a cult following from DJ's and clubbers/ravers from around the World. ACU was well on the pulse of fusion dj/club/rave/music/sneaker culture at the time. Not the nonsense and bollocks of RbK and that DJ Shoe...
Japanese Geisha embroidery sneaker from one season appeared in MoMA somewhere...I think it was New York.
the Cocoon nightclub got its own ACU sneaker...designed by *DJ's name (Having a mind blank now...see what festivals do to you?!)
Roger Dirty Sanchez did a gold and silver ACU trainer...
the naked teddy bears! I think they lasted a season, got complaints and they had to put clothes on them the next season.
Not sure when ACU fell off...they still around mainly in HK I think. It was originally a UK LDN Soho company...
But yeah my favourite model would have to be the 'beefer'. Big chunky sole, velcro A interlocking design with a 3M piping finish. Looks so fresh and so comfy!

Thats my rant on a non conventional sneaker brand.
The new designs and quality have completely fallen off...
But who knows, if they retro a 'montinyak' sole with a 'beefer' A system velcro upper? I'd mos def buy a pair!
Thats enuff from me...
Peace.
