Alright lads, so I picked this up the other week.
I'm a big aussie fan, pickup most local releases so I'd say I've heard a good portion of what us aussies are producing and I must say the new BNE joint absoutely kills shit. I gave their first album Flowers In The Pavement major rotation, was really trippy and out-there but was exactly what the scene needed, something different. fast foward to Day of The Dog and that was more appealing to the mainstream with some absoloute bangers and also kept the heads happy, although wasn't revolutionary in any way. I think that the BNE lads have come up with something real special, unique and accessable with Flying Colours.
The general vibe of the album is similar to Flowers in The Pavement in that it has lots of weird adlibs, smoke dream induced raps and generally is pretty weird. I think its exactly what the scene needed, another dose of something different and pushing the locally produced hiphop a bit further. That being said, there are some big bangers too which also allow the album to be accessable for those not usually heavily into hiphop. Highlights for me are "Destiny Lane" "Field of Dreams" and "The Sea is Rising". However "Happy in My Hoody" with Phrase and Hyjack is also a great track, big party vibe. The bonus disc avaliable on the launch also has some great numbers, "The Dark Tower" is a killer joint, weird sampling but clean production make it a realy listenable track.
So theres a bit of insight into what I think is an essential aussie release which would appeal to both the heads and the casual listener wanting something a bit more from the local stuff currently out. Hope some of ya give it a listen!
braaaaaaaaaaaaat!
